Used primarily out of the bullpen in 2004, Steve started one game. He collected 27 strikeouts and allowed just nine walks in 34.0 innings. As a sophomore in 2003, Spurgeon was 2-1 with a 5.82 ERA. He appeared in 14 games in 2003, including six starts. His best outing came against the Tigers on Apr. 8th as he struck out a career-high six batters.<b>Junior College:</b> <p>Spurgeon attended Delta JC in Stockton, Calif. during 2002. As a member of the Mustangs, Steve was 2-4 with a 4.20 ERA in 49.1 innings. He appeared in 12 games as a freshman, starting nine contests, the most starts by a freshman for Delta JC.
